Join Cambridge's largest student society today for the opportunity to see world-class speakers and debates, as well as plenty of other members’ benefits. Membership is open to all students (past and present) and staff of the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University, the Judge Business School, and the BPP Law School. Do note, however, that membership cannot be refunded.
Ways of joining:
This is the most common way to join us: this grants you full membership rights for your entire time at Cambridge, and beyond – with many of our life members returning to our events years after they’ve graduated. The first 600 life members to join this year, perhaps most crucially of all, will receive a guaranteed ticket to our Freshers’ Ball; those who join thereafter will join the ballot for any tickets remaining. So act fast!
Life membership ordinarily costs £200. But until the 20th October, we’re offering a special discount for all new members:
Those joining Cambridge this year can join for just £185, which works out at about £2.30 per week you’ll spend in the city over a three-year degree.
For this year only, those entering their second year can join for just £155 – a one-off discount to reflect the unique circumstances of last year, where few had reason to sign up as they usually would. This makes this the cheapest that Union membership has been in years.
Please note that we will require proof of eligibility before issuing a second year discounted membership. We accept a confirmation from your college showing the year of matriculation or correspondence from the Student Loan Company proving the year you arrived at university. We will review your documents when you come to collect your card.
Access membership is the same as life membership, but offered at lower a lower rate for those in receipt of a Cambridge University Bursary or Anglia Ruskin University Bursary.
We offer three tiers of discount, depending on household income. These are:
Full Discount: £115. Available to any student with a household income below £25,000.
2/3 Discount: £135. Available to any student with a household income between £25,001 and £33,750.
1/3 Discount: £155. Available to any student with a household income between £33,751 and £42,620.
Please note that we will require proof of eligibility before issuing an access membership. We accept either a letter of entitlement from the University of Cambridge or Anglia Ruskin University stating the value of your bursary, or a letter of entitlement from Student Finance England stating the value of your maintenance loan. We will review the relevant documents when you come to collect your membership card. If you fall into the two higher income brackets (£135 or £155), you may then be asked to pay the difference in person.
Graduates and postgraduates: new for this year, we will also accept a letter of entitlement from Student Finance England stating the value of your maintenance loan from the previous academic year, in order to enable you to apply for access membership.
Note: if you think you may be eligible for access membership, select this, rather than life membership, when joining – as refunds for life membership cannot be given.
This offers membership for a year, though does mean you are ineligible to run in the society’s elections or attend the Freshers’ Ball. During the year, you have the option to upgrade to lifetime membership by paying the difference. This opportunity expires at the end of your year.
